The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office arrested a burglary suspect at the 3700 block of Center Street in Houston, Texas on Aug. 6.

The suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary of a Building regarding the same Katy Islamic Center in the Katy area of Fort Bend County. The suspect admitted guilt in the charges against him.

The Katy Islamic Center located at 24740 Saddle Spur Lane was targeted twice by this individual.

The first burglary occurred on Dec. 1, 2018, and the second occurred in April 12, 2019. In both incidents, the suspect broke into the center and stole cash and checks from the donation boxes.

The suspect is Loyd Richard Smith Jr., 40, of Houston, TX and he is currently in the Fort Bend County jail.

Smith Jr. has a lengthy criminal record across several counties and Theft of religious centers appears to be an objective for him.

“I am very grateful that our detectives were able to identify and locate this suspect,” said Sheriff Troy Nehls.
