The start of the 2019 high school football season is just a week away, but this week will provide an early snapshot of what Katy ISD teams have in store for the new campaign.
KATY — Cinco Ranch used a combination of precise passing and strong outside hitting to play nearly mistake-free on August 16, dismantling a good Spring Branch Memorial team in an impressive sweep, 25-12, 25-18 and 25-18.
Carson King would go up to the Cinco Ranch campus during late evenings this summer and see the light on in coach Chris Dudley’s office. A friend of King’s told him he went up to campus to workout at 6 a.m. one morning and saw Dudley’s car in the parking lot.
TOMBALL — A quartet of runners from Cinco Ranch were the top varsity finishers among Katy-area schools, but duos from Tompkins and Katy High School also earned medals at the season-opening Cypress Cross Country Relays held at Spring Creek Park on August 10.
Heidi Nielson was beginning to develop into one of the better high school runners in the state. Now she’s making a name for herself on the national level.
