The Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2019 Preseason team on June 14.

The players recognized are considered the top players in the Greater Houston area. A player's high school coach had to nominate the player(s) to be considered, and the coach must also be a member of the GHVCA.

Katy ISD was well-represented on the team with nine players from four schools.

Cinco Ranch named senior outsider hitter Danyle Courtley, senior setter Aislan Lennon and senior middle blocker/hitter Madalyn O'Brien.

Courtley averaged 3.6 kills per set last season. Lennon averaged 4.7 assists and 2.6 digs per set. O'Brien averaged 2.9 kills per set, had a .311 hit percentage and 113 total blocks to go with 2.4 digs per set.

Katy named junior libero/outside hitter Hannah Hoover, senior libero Maddie Thayer and sophomore setter Maddie Waak.

Hoover was third on the team in aces last season with 51. She also averaged 3.4 digs per set. Thayer averaged 4.2 digs per set. Waak averaged 2.2 kills, led the team in aces with 64 and averaged 2.2 digs per set.

Seven Lakes named junior outside hitter/middle blocker Ally Batenhorst and senior middle blocker/outside hitter Gabrielle Collins.

Batenhorst, arguably the top player in Region III-6A volleyball, averaged 4.4 kills per set with 42 aces last season, compiling 84 total blocks and 2.4 digs per set. Collins had a team-best 127 blocks.

Tompkins named sophomore outside hitter Paris Herrman.

Herrman averaged 2.7 kills per set last season, totaled 53 aces and averaged 2.3 digs per set.

Not coincidentally, all four schools made deep playoff runs last season.
