According to Workforce Solutions, an agency that tracks unemployment in the Greater Houston area, Harris County’s unemployment rate was 8.4% in August with a loss of more than 24,000 jobs in the first quarter of 2020 alone, causing a need for assistance throughout the area. Harris County has partnered with Catholic Charities to help distributed $40 million in CARES funds to families impacted by the economic downturn spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors such as uncertainty in the energy sector.
