Betty Grace Gillespie, loving, thoughtful, friend, mother and grandmother, 77, of Katy, Texas, passed away Friday, Jan. 22 2010.
She was born Jan. 16, 1933 in Locust Grove, Okla. to Robert Carter and Jewel (Dorsey) Jones.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father and brother, Bobby Joe.
She is survived by daughter, Dayna Kulik and husband Steve of Denton, Texas; son, David Gillespie and wife Dona of Katy; grandson, Joshua Gillespie of Hong Kong; and granddaughter, Rachael Gillespie of Katy, Texas.
Betty grew up in Tulsa, Okla. and graduated from Tulsa Central high School in 1951. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing 1954. Betty and family left Tulsa and moved to Edmond, Okla.; Dallas, Texas; Shreveport and Natchitoches, La.; Phoenix, Ariz.; and Corpus Christi, Texas.
After many years of working as a Registered Nurse at various hospitals and Nursing Homes, she went back to school and graduated with a degree in Psychology from Corpus Christi University in 1979 and an M.B.A. from Corpus Christi State University in 1982. After the passing of her parents, she moved back to Tulsa, Okla. briefly and then on to Escondido, Calif. while working in Nursing Administration until her retirement, after which she moved to Katy, Texas to be near her children and grandchildren.
Betty enjoyed volunteering at the Katy Hospital (later Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital) until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She also enjoyed playing dominoes, going on day trips and various other activities with her fellow Katy Seniors and friends in the First United Methodist Church Sunshine Class.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 at the Katy First United Methodist Church, 5601 Fifth Street, Katy, Texas.
