David Herbert “Herb” Blake was born on September 23, 1945 in Liberty, Texas. On January 16, 1975, he married Betty Milner Wynn in Richmond, Texas. Herb was a Life Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and served with the Eagle Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Herb loved hunting, especially bird hunting. He served many other hunters guiding bird-hunting trips in the Eagle Lake area. He loved target shooting and was an excellent marksman. He enjoyed fishing, but one of his greatest passions was just outdoors riding one of his several John Deere tractors.
David Herbert “Herb” Blake passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at his home in Pattison, Texas at the age of 73 years.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Blake of Pattison; children, Carol & Joseph “Skip” Sorth of Katy, William “Bill” & Laura Wynn of Mankato, Minnesota, and Laura Blake & Brandon O’Callaghan of Fulshear; grandchildren, Sean Wynn and Kyla Wynn; his mother, Virginia Waldrop of Eagle Lake; and his brother, Kirby D. Waldrop of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Asa Blake, in 1945; by his stepfather, the man Herb always looked to as a father, Doyle Waldrop; and by a brother, Harley Waldrop.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Schmidt Funeral Home East Avenue Chapel, in Katy. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 in the Bolin Chapel at Katy’s First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jon Hicks officiating. Interment in Katy Magnolia Cemetery.
