Douglas Vernon Sheppard was born on Nov. 19, 1936 in Topeka, Kansas to Claude Wilson and Eleanor Genevieve Vernon Sheppard. On Feb. 4, 1961, he married Mary Elizabeth Smith in Agua Dulce, Texas. Douglas proudly served as a member of the U.S. Marine Reserves. He was Vice President at Genstar until his retirement in 1990. Douglas has lived in Katy since 1976, where he was a Deacon, and then an Elder at the church of Christ in Katy.

Douglas Vernon Sheppard passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2010 in Katy, Texas at the age of 73 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Sheppard of Katy; children, Douglas Michael and his wife Elisa Sheppard of Katy, Kay and her husband Michael Hunsucker of Katy, Jim and his wife Stefanie Sheppard of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Julie and her husband Tim Scrivner of Escondido, Calif.; and grandchildren, Douglas Sheppard, Mikayla Sheppard, Gracie Sheppard, Hunter Hunsucker, Branton Hunsucker, Sam Sheppard, Dylan Sheppard, Weston Scrivner and Joshua Scrivner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Wilson and Eleanor Genevieve Vernon Sheppard; and by his sister, Janet Lee Wagner.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the church of Christ in Katy, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 with Mr. John Cannon officiating.

Pallbearers will be Larry Brown, Keith Honey, Bobby Gibson, David Gibson, Douglas Sheppard, Hunter Hunsucker, Weston Scrivner and Mike Sadler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wendell Autrey, Matt Brockman, Tom Gillson, Woodrow Coleman, Larry Russell, Scott Taft, Steve Winbigler, Tom Berger, Steve Jones, Clodis Cox, Nelson Bell, Joe Simmons, Cecil Hutson and Carl Evans.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the Medina Children’s Home, 21300 State Highway 16 North, Medina, Texas 78055.
