Mary Margaret Friesenhahn Steger, age 65, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019 in Austin. She was the wife of former Katy Times Publisher Ken Steger, and a resident of Katy for 20 years.
Born in San Antonio, TX. on May 23, 1953, she was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Friesenhahn.
A resident of Austin since 2006, Mary was an active member of St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church.
Growing up, she attended St.Gerards Catholic School and later earned her B.A. degree in sociology from Texas Lutheran University.
She was married to Kenneth Steger on August 23, 1975 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Boerne, Tx.
Mary was a devoted mother to her four children and, throughout her life, was drawn to the arts; painting, poetry, the ballet, classical music and the Beatles. She had a particular love for Russian poets, novelists and dancers.
Her love of children led her to a career as a pre-school teacher until she suffered a brain aneurysm in 2002 and was forced to retire from teaching.
Preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Kristen Ann Steger, Mary is survived by her husband of 44 years; her children, Jennifer Steger and her husband, Baltazar Santiago; Stacey Steger and her husband, Ryan Davis; and James Steger and his wife, Veronica Rocha; and one granddaughter, Mary Harper Davis.
Mary is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Henry J. Friesenhahn, Jr. and his wife, Tina; Sister Margaret Mary Friesenhahn, SSND; Patricia Brown and her husband, Jim; James Friesenhahn and his wife, Linda; Jeanette Richard and her husband, Cookie.
In addition, she is survived by her mother-in-law, Patt Moore; brother-in-law, Chris Steger; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Steger Brisart.
Following her funeral service at St. Ignatius on Wed., May 15, Mary was interred near her daughter's grave at St. James Cemetery in Seguin, Tx.
