Katy ISD superintendent responds to Golbow controversy

Posted: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 12:00 am

The dispute over administration at Golbow Elementary went to another level at the Board of Trustees meeting Monday, when the head administrator of Katy Independent School District fought back over the continuing allegations of mistreatment of staff at the campus.

Former Golbow principal Terri Majors has spoken to the board on numerous occasions regarding bullying and intimidation of Golbow teachers and staff, but this week Katy ISD superintendent Alton Frailey was prepared with his own statements on what is happening at the school.

I was at a board meeting when people were there to complain about, this school. The idea that the former principal Mrs Majors had anything to do with the current "bulleying" is crazy. My daughter was "bullyed" out of her job as cafeteria monitor, then they started on my grandaughter a student there. She is now home schooled as no other option was available at the time other bthanexpensive private schools. This schoolboard doesn't care about facts. Mr Frailey lied to me, rather than discuss issues of concern. Their "protocol" is a joke there to discourage a real dialog. In my opinion we are paying taxes for services not rendered. This board has forgottenthe most important part of the job...teaching....

Gosh, where have YOU been. Since when has truth, facts, and honest dealings or the total lack thereof been Alton's strong suit?

Of course the whole thing was a put on. He had a written statement and his cheer section read to go.

He lined up his ducks and even as a sitting superintendent supporting the current campus administration he could ONLY round up a couple of parents and a teacher to come forward. If that is a sign of community support for the current team, I sure don't want to be around when they fade away.

There is a problem and it needs fixing and if there is NO problem then someone needs to ask why this discussion is going on and more and more teachers past and present are beginning to show up on message boards telling their horror stories. When there is this much smoke, someone had better call the fire department.[sad]

Since the specific open forum speakers are not on the board's agenda, i find it curious that Mr. Frailey would have a prepared statement to share after one of the speakers. He told the audience that the teachers at Golbow had never availed themselves of the special superintendent who went to the campus to listen to the complaints last year. That was untrue. I spoke to Patty Paetow on one of her visits to the campus. He refers to the principal's "first year" being pretty tough. What about the second year? That's when the discussion started concerning her bullying tactics. Mr. Frailey claimed that he was "unaware of any complaints advanced through the processes available in board policy", yet I was there in March, as was Mr. Frailey, when the board voted down two complaints from a Golbow teacher. So I'm not sure where Mr. Frailey is gathering his information to make the statement he read on Monday night.
