AJ Bates kept racking up the accomplishments this week.

The Seven Lakes senior was one of the best in the entire state this year and was rewarded for it, being named the District 19-6A MVP for the third straight season, the first boys basketball player to ever accomplish the feat in Katy ISD.

Bates was joined on the superlatives list by his coach and a teammate. Freshman Isaiah Santos was named the district’s newcomer of the year while Seven Lakes head coach Shannon Heston as named the districts coach of the year for the third straight season after the Spartans went 36-3, clinched a second straight undefeated district title and got back to the regional tournament for a second straight year.

Mayde Creek sophomore Christian Gibson was named the offensive MVP of the district after averaging 29 points per game over the course of the season and helping the Rams to a 11-22 record and Jordan junior Elijah Black was named the defensive MVP after averaging two steals and two deflections per game while helping the Warriors to a third place finish in district and a regional quarterfinal appearance.

Seven Lakes led the way by placing four players on the districts first team. Joining Bates and Santos were sophomore guard Nasir Price and senior guard Brett Norton. Katy, Jordan and Paetow all placed two players each on the first team all district. The Tigers had Michael Hernandez and Brady Willis named to the team while the Warriors had Black and Jaden Holt put on the first team and Paetow had Ade Onaleye and Princeton Layton named to the first team. For Cinco Ranch, Prince Jones-Bynum joined the first team while Morton Ranch’s Jayden Jones and Mayde Creek’s Gibson rounded out first team honors.

Cinco Ranch and Jordan led the second team by placing two players on the districts second team. The Cougars had freshman Dylan Jones-Bynum and junior Kellen LeCronier being named to the team while Jordan had juniors Rayan Fadika and Jude Oluokun named to the team. The other district teams all placed one on the second team. Paetow’s Isaiah Bates, Katy’s Tomas Belaiter, Mayde Creek’s Jamal Chretien, Tompkins’ Colton Collins, Seven Lakes’ Tillman Jaramillo, Morton Ranch’s Corey Johnson and Taylor’s Jabari Parker were all named to the second team.
